Hi, what are you looking for?

THORNTON – People traveling between Spokane and Pullman can expect significant delays for several months as work begins Tuesday, May 31 on US 195.

Contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will begin replacing cracked and damaged concrete panels along a 10-mile stretch of US 195 between the Cashup Flatts Weigh Station and the SR 271 interchange in Whitman County. The project, which begins on Tuesday, is expected to last through September.

Work on this project will begin in both the south and northbound lanes in an area that includes a passing lane, which will remain open for alternating one-way traffic. Work will then be performed one lane at a time, starting with the southbound lane.

During the project, a single lane will be open to alternating one-way traffic. Traffic will be temporarily halted and led through the work zone via a traffic signal. Once the traffic has exited the construction area, the other direction of traffic will be released. Travelers can expect delays of up to 20 minutes at any time through the duration of the project.

Travelers hoping to use SR 27 as an alternate route between Spokane and Pullman can also expect delays due to an ongoing chip seal project.

Before heading out the door, travelers can find highway conditions on the WSDOT Travel Alerts page, mobile app and on the regional Twitter account.
