Owner: Convoy of Hope General contractor: Q & Co. LLC Architect: Buxton Kubik Dodd Design Collective Engineers: Miller Engineering PC, structural; Olsson Inc., civil; Buxton Kubik Dodd Design Collective, mechanical, electrical and plumbing; and Anderson Engineering Inc., geotechnical Size: 200,000 square feet Lender: None Cost: $37 million Estimated completion: Summer 2023 Project description: On Oct. 27, Convoy of Hope dedicated its new 250,000-square-foot distribution center and broke ground on its next project: a 200,000-square-foot headquarters and training center, which will be connected to the distribution center by a skywalk. The headquarters is being constructed of post-tensioned cast-in-place concrete in a steel frame that includes decorative metal wall panels and aluminum and glass accents, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting. All of Convoy’s 250 employees will be housed in the building, with room to double that number, and an auditorium on the premises will seat up to 700 people for training seminars. Convoy of Hope President Hal Donaldson has said the purpose of the two buildings is to increase capacity – nearly tripling pallet space from the former Springfield location – to expand the amount of relief the organization can deliver to people in need around the globe, according to a report on the groundbreaking from the Convoy website. Convoy’s annual report shows that in 2021, the organization served 29 million people worldwide.
